    The average volume of the stomach in the body of an adult is about 500 ml. Although, due to its elasticity, the body can increase in volume up to 8 times. Its average length is 26 cm, the width between the walls is 8 to 12 cm. But these are only approximate figures, because the size of the stomach is individual and depends on the constitution of the human body and the culture of its nutrition.
    The stomach has a rather complex anatomy. It consists of several departments:

    Gastric juice is a very aggressive medium that can dissolve a handful of small nails in a few days. Therefore, there are a number of protective mechanisms aimed at neutralizing its negative effects. In a healthy person, this system is balanced, but a violation of this balance may be a consequence of some disease, then the gastric mucosa suffers first - ulcers and erosion are formed.
    It is widely believed that the digestion of food entering the human body occurs in the stomach. But it is not. The main task of this body is only the grinding of food and its preparation for the extraction of useful substances. The mushy substance formed after muscle contractions and exposure to acid has a special medical term - chyme. From the stomach it enters the small intestine, where it is directly digested.
    Thus, the main functions of this organ in the human body are:
    � mechanical and chemical processing of food;
    � the secretion of enzymes necessary for the absorption of water, sugar, salt, vitamins, as well as the production of various hormonal and other beneficial substances;
    � protection against pathogenic bacteria;
    � Adaptation of the temperature of food consumed under the optimal indicators necessary for its further digestion.
