H&M Debuts First Hijab-Wearing Muslim Model in New Video Campaign
H&M Releases Ad With First Hijab-Wearing Muslim Model And She Looks Beautiful
Mariah Idrissi appears in the H&M advert alongside Iggy Pop and Tess Holliday
has released an incredible new advert for their Close The Loop recycling campaign, featuring their first Muslim hijab-wearing model.
Mariah Idrissi, 23, appears in the commercial in a patterned headscarf paired with a chic oversized nude jacket, wide-leg trousers and round tortoiseshell sunglasses.
The Londoner stars in the ad alongside rock star Iggy Pop, plus size model Tess Holliday and British Sikh menswear blogger Pardeep Singh Bahra.
Mariah was pretty surprised to get the call from H&M, recalling her reaction when she was offered the job: ‘Are you sure they know I wear a hijab?’
‘It always feels like women who wear hijab are ignored when it comes to fashion,’ she told Fusion.
‘Our style, in a way, hasn’t really mattered, so it’s amazing that a brand that is big has recognized the way we wear hijab.’
Mariah, who’s parents are from Pakistan and Morocco, took on the job because of the positive message behind the campaign, which encourages people to bring in their old clothes to H&M stores to be reused or recycled.
